New details revealed on new £50m Beeston cinema complex

Construction & Build

Fresh plans have revealed more details about Beeston's new £50m cinema complex.

The eight-screen cinema, expected to open in the summer, is expected to create 150 new jobs.

Now, plans have shown two mezzanine units are planned within the building, a mezzanine floor typically providing space for storage, offices or retail.

It comes after it was announced The Arc Cinema has taken over the building which forms the entertainment centrepiece of the multi-million-pound project.

The cinema team has taken over from the main contractor, Bowmer + Kirkland, to begin the installation of eight digital laser projectors and screens, immersive surround sound systems, luxury leather recliner seats, a cafe and a bar.

Councillor Steve Carr, deputy leader of Broxtowe Borough Council, said: “We want Beeston to be a destination town and this cinema complex will play a big role in its future prosperity.

"Not only will it attract more people to the town and create jobs, but it will give people who live in Beeston something to be proud of, too.”

Brian Gilligan, of The Arc Cinema, added: “The time has come to put our exciting plans into action to bring Beeston’s new cinema to life - and we couldn’t be more thrilled.

"Beeston’s a great place full of great people and we can’t wait to give them the state-of-the-art cinema they want and deserve.”

Work on the Beeston Square development began in November 2019, the entertainment complex forming the second phase of a wider development to refurbish the shopping precinct, among other improvements.

It had been hoped the project, between Styring Street, Middle Street and Station Street, would be open by Christmas last year, but it was already behind schedule as it entered 2020.
