Henry Brothers wins £7m University of Nottingham Castle Meadow Campus contract

Construction & Build

The University wants to create enterprise campus on the 9 acre site which sits at the foot of Nottingham Castle.

Henry Brothers Construction has won a £7 million contract to help develop the University of Nottingham’s newly acquired Castle Meadow Campus. The university bought the landmark office complex at the end of 2021, which was on the market for more than £36 million

The land was home to HMRC – law firm Brown Jacobson is still based there – prior to it being sold by Mapeley Steps and Malabar Investment Holdings. The university wants to create an enterprise campus on the 9 acre site which sits in Castle Meadow Road at the foot of Nottingham Castle.

Henry Brothers will remodel and refurbish two of seven to prepare them for future occupation.

Ian Taylor, managing director of Nottingham-based Henry Brothers Construction, said: “This is a hugely exciting project for the University of Nottingham and for the city, and we are proud to be playing a part in it.

“Henry Brothers has extensive experience of working with universities across the Midlands to improve their facilities.

“This is our first contract with the University of Nottingham, and we are really looking forward to getting on site in our home city to deliver some of the building work at Castle Meadow Campus.”

The Henry Brothers work will take in buildings D and F, with work on building D is expected to be finished later this year ahead of it being leased to some of university’s industry partners, including global accountancy firm KPMG.

Building F will also house industry partners, but predominantly innovative spin-outs, start-ups, and scale-ups on flexible licenses. It will have space for collaborative working, hot-desking, meeting rooms and meeting pods. The refurbishment is due to be completed in early 2024.

Henry Brothers is working with project manager Aecom, quantity surveyor Gardiner & Theobald, concept architect Hopkins, engineer Arup, architect Bond Bryan, and landscape architect Ares Design.
